The sea is a constant in Jim’s life, and every morning he cycles along the seafront in all weathers, dodging early joggers, but usually on his way to wherever he is to sketch. In any number of drawings, etchings and paintings, the sea has featured, but in this project the sea took centre stage.
These large canvasses are explorations of the sea in her various moods and weather, and mirroring the way the sea changes from benign to threatening, depending on the light and the viewers’ own perceptions, so these canvasses also change.
