As a young man, Jim lived and worked in London from 1965 until 1979 and many of his early images are inspired by the sights of the capital. For several years he worked variety of jobs, from a commis waiter to a nightwatchman at the Bank of England, all the while observing and taking mental notes of the capital in the swinging sixties.

In the late sixties he was accepted to study illustration at the Royal College of Art, and where he continued to develop his unique style.

Here is a small selection of Jim’s work from the early days. This includes the iconic London bus image which continues to be one of his most popular prints, as well as “The Owl with the pencil in its ear”, an exhibit in the Natural History Museum, which is still there.
