Clocks

Jim’s series of 12 clocks are inspired by, and named after the twelve months of the year. These canvasses form a “Stop All the Clocks” project, whereby Jim noticed various clocks around Brighton which had stopped, and used these as a basis for the paintings.

These canvasses […]represent […]the constant change of the seasons […]

These canvasses remind us of the passage of time, and reflect in the series with the movement of the hands of the clock the constant change of the seasons, and the responding changes in light, colour, and temperature, as well as the unstable weather.

While the paintings remind us of the constant march of time, and the transient nature of life, they also, and somewhat ironically freeze time, as the hands of the canvas clock offer a permanence not afforded by reality. While the hands of a clock may stop, time marches on.

The project was undertaken in 2008.
