Brighton Etchings

Jim braves the elements every weekday morning throughout the year by spending a couple of hours out and about in Brighton, sketching on paper in preparation for studio based work or marking directly onto the etching plate.

London-by-the-Sea, as Brighton is sometimes termed, offers the artist constant inspiration.

London-by-the-Sea, as Brighton is sometimes termed, offers the artist constant inspiration, from the Indian-influenced architecture of the iconic Brighton Pavilion, to the Regency period houses, and the Victorian piers, parks, bandstand and railway station, as well as the Duke of York’s picture house, Britain’s oldest cinema (1910). Many of these prints use the unique colouration technique perfected by Jim, and bring these bygone eras to life, as well as bring new perspectives to familiar landmarks.

All Jim’s etchings are limited editions. The first six become his artist’s proofs and there is then a run of 75. After that, the plate is destroyed. All plates on this page are 500mm x 350mm.
